Definición del amor (Versión Ballada)

Crooner ballad - contradiction resolved with confidence and elegance, as if it already knows its place.

English Translation

This Spanish version of a classic crooner ballad style to give the lyrics a sense of elegance and composure. The Spanish language naturally enhances the melodic flow, allowing the words to feel smooth and expressive. In a setting where "machismo" is still more accepted than in other music traditions, the emotional tone is intense, shifting between declarations of love and a need for submission, ultimately highlighting the tension between personal freedom and the constraints of a demanding, possessive relationship.

Lyrics

I want to make you my wife,
with the plan to run away afterward.
To burn for you until I grow old
and betray you in the shadows without feeling a thing.

I say: you are free, yes sir,
to demand that you be mine.
Never depend on my control,
but mine forever, night and day.

I respect who you say you are,
but I mold you to my truth.
I know what you want to see,
if you say it the way I will say it in the end.

I want you strong, I want you faithful,
obedient even when you are right.
Scream at me when I fall into it,
but surrender before the last note of your voice.

I say: you are free, yes sir,
free to demand that you be mine.
Never depend on my control,
but mine forever, night and day.

I respect who you say you are,
but I mold you to my truth.
I know what you want to see,
if you say it the way I'll say it in the end.

Crooner Ballad

A crooner ballad is a sentimental, romantic song performed in an intimate, soft, and smooth vocal style. Developed in the late 1920s, the style was enabled by the microphone, which allowed singers to sing softly ("croon") rather than shout to the back of a theatre.

Characterized by a "silky" voice, often using pitch slides and a gentle vibrato, and accompanied by lush string arrangements or soft swing bands, crooners were often marketed as suave, romantic figures.

Interaction Between Music & Lyrics

I chose the Spanish crooner ballad because it frames the contradictions in the lyrics as something already understood and accepted. The smooth phrasing and harmonic richness soften any tension, giving the paradox a sense of sensuality. The Spanish language enhances this effect, connecting opposing ideas through its natural musicality. What might feel conflicted in other versions becomes here something elegant and romantic, as if contradiction itself were part of a larger emotional truth.
