Definiția dragostei - Versiunea Doina
Doina/Urban Blues Fusion = contradiction felt in the body; desired, sensual, and present
Introducere
English Translation
The poetic Romanian versions, with a repeated refrain that crystallizes the paradox of love/ownership/freedom, aim for natural Romanian diction, clear rhythm, and end-rhymes, even if that means bending away from literal phrasing to preserve the poem’s tone and irony.
Two of the songs are fusions of Doina and Urban Blues, giving them a luscious, almost seductive quality.
Poem Romanesc / English Poem
The Romanian lyrics sit left and the English translation sits right of the centred cover, with further explanations about the song continuing full width below.
Lyrics
I want to make you my wife
with the clear intention of leaving.
To adore you for a lifetime
and in the desire to betray you, untie you.
Darling, I know you are right
asking to be only mine, everything,
free, without depending,
but mine forever to remain.
With respect for who you are
I want you to build yourself from clay.
Accept what you want to be able to become,
but say differently what you want to tell me.
I want you proud and strong,
but obedient, even if you had logic.
To argue with me when I am wrong,
but to give in — without any hard war.

The doina is a traditional, often improvised, lyrical Romanian musical form recognized. Known for its melancholic, free-rhythm style and soulful nature, it frequently explores themes of longing (dor), love, and nature, often accompanied by instruments like the flute.
I let the music draw the words closer, so the contradictions are no longer distant or searching, but felt in the moment. In this setting, they don’t drift or resolve, but linger, shaped by touch, tone, and breath. The language flows with a quiet intensity, held within a space that feels both intimate and alive. What emerges is something warm and immediate, where paradox becomes something to feel rather than to understand.
Interaction Between Music & Lyrics
I created this fusion because it allows the contradictions in the lyrics to become something felt in the body rather than held in thought. The blues elements introduce warmth and sensuality, while the Doina influence preserves a sense of fluidity and introspection. Together, they transform the paradox into something lived through desire and presence. What might feel distant or abstract in other versions becomes here something close, tactile, and emotionally charged.
