Definizione dell’amore – Versione Rap

Rap duet - contradiction contested, challenged and redirected

Introduzione

English Translation

I set this version as an energetic rap duet to bring the text into a space of dialogue, contrast, and shifting perspective.

The two voices create a dynamic interplay, moving the song beyond a single point of view. This version feels active and confrontational, shaped by exchange rather than reflection.

Poesia italiana / English Poem

The Italian lyrics sit left and the English translation sits right of the centred cover, with further explanations about the song continuing full width below.

Testi di canzoni

Voglio farti mia moglie, giuro,
con la valigia pronta dietro il muro.
Ti venero a vita, faccia pulita,

Ti dico: sei libera, fallo pure,

Rispetto chi sei, almeno a parole,
basta dirlo come dico io, stessa versione.

Ti voglio fiera, schiena dritta,

Lyrics

I want to make you my wife, I swear,
with my suitcase packed behind the wall.
I worship you for life, clean-cut face,
but under your skin the lie is sewn.

I tell you: you're free, go ahead,
free to say you're only mine, safe and sound.
Never depend on me, act strong,
but remain mine until fate's end.

I respect who you are, at least in words,
then I'll bend you slowly like soles.
Be what you want, choose your direction,
just say it like I say, same version.

I want you proud, back straight,
but silent when necessary, even if you've understood.
Tell me I'm wrong, wage war on me,
then lay down your weapons, kiss the ground.

Rap

While Rap has been a staple addition to contemporary music since emerging from 1970s Bronx, NY, as part of hip-hop culture, non-English rap maybe less known, though Italian rap is a dominant force in Italy's music scene.

Like hard rock, rap allows for more direct, confrontational expression of the contradictions of love.

I let the voices meet in tension, so the contradictions are no longer held in one place, but move between them. In this setting, they are spoken, answered, and ultimately reshaped. The rhythm drives the exchange forward, giving each line weight and intent. What emerges is something dynamic and unresolved, where paradox becomes a struggle that changes as it is voiced.

Interaction Between Music & Lyrics

I chose rap because it allows the contradictions in the lyrics to be articulated clearly and directly, without being softened by melody. The duet structure turns the paradox into an interaction, where one voice asserts and the other responds, ultimately reframing the dynamic. The rhythmic delivery sharpens the language, making each statement feel deliberate and controlled. What begins as a declaration of contradiction is challenged and transformed, shifting the balance of power within the song.

The imagery of war and peace symbolizes the ongoing battle for understanding and connection in a romantic bond.

While the male singer starts the duet with the contradiction of making her his wife but planning to leave her, it is the female singer who ends the song by stating that he needs to lay down his arms and kiss the ground.

The resolution doesn’t come from the original speaker, it is taken over and re-authored.

Technical Snapshot (Concise)

  • Tempo & groove: BPM: 161 (82/Cyanite). Moderate to fast tempo with a steady, beat-driven groove, emphasising rhythmic precision and forward momentum.
  • Harmony: C Major (E Minor/Cyanite), minimal, loop-based harmonic structure, prioritising rhythm and vocal delivery over harmonic development.
  • Instrumentation & texture: Beat-focused production (drums, bass, synth layers), with space carved out for vocal interplay and contrast between voices.
  • Dynamics & production: Consistent and punchy, with emphasis on vocal clarity, articulation, and contrast between sections rather than dynamic swell.
