Definizione dell’amore – Versione Fusione Folk-Jazz

Italian folk–jazz fusion - contradiction explored playfully with a distinctly bohemian, almost mischievous quality

Introduzione

English Translation

The folk–jazz fusion style brings a sense of playfulness and lightness into the text. The Italian language naturally lends itself to fluid phrasing, which here feels even more free and expressive.

The music moves with ease, allowing the song to feel relaxed rather than driven. This version carries the ideas with a kind of playfulness and cheeky openness.

Poesia italiana / English Poem

The Italian lyrics sit left and the English translation sits right of the centred cover, with further explanations about the song continuing full width below.

Testi di canzoni

Voglio farti mia sposa, lo sai,
con l’intento segreto di andare.
Ti adorerò per tutti i miei guai
e nel desiderio saprò tradire.

Riconosco, certo, che sei libera
di pretendere che sia solo tua;
mai dipendente dalla mia parola,
pur mio possesso per l’eternità nuda.

Rispetto la tua identità sincera,
ma come argilla ti voglio plasmare.
Accetto ciò che vorresti diventare,
se cambi il modo in cui osi parlare.

Ti voglio fiera, ti voglio forte,
obbediente anche avendo ragione;
sfidami pure se sbaglio sorte,
ma cedi sempre, senza opposizione.

Lyrics

I want to make you my wife, you know,
with the secret intention of going.
I will adore you for all my troubles,
and in my desire I will know how to betray.

I recognize, of course, that you are free
to demand that I be yours alone;
never dependent on my word,
though my possession for naked eternity.

I respect your sincere identity,
but I want to mold you like clay.
I accept what you would become,
if you change the way you dare to speak.

I want you proud, I want you strong,
obedient even when right
challenge me if I fail in my fate,
but always yield, without opposition.

Italian Folk-Jazz

The fusion of Italian folk-inspired tunes with Jazz is not an official music genre, I think.

But I like it as it gives music a certain gaiety and lightheartedness that contradicts the underlying seriousness of the lyrics.

Interaction Between Music & Lyrics

I chose the fusion because it allows the contradictions in the lyrics to be toyed with rather than resolved or asserted. The relaxed groove and jazz harmony create space for ambiguity, while the playful tone prevents the paradox from becoming heavy or confrontational. The Italian language softens the edges further, making opposing ideas feel almost conversational. What might feel intense in other versions becomes here something light, flexible, and quietly frivolous.

  • Harmony:C Major (F Major/Cyanite) Jazz-inflected harmony with extended chords and gentle progressions, favouring colour and subtle variation over strong resolution.
  • Instrumentation & texture: Acoustic-led ensemble (guitar, piano, light percussion, possibly clarinet or strings), producing a warm, textured, and slightly whimsical sound.
  • Dynamics & production: Light and responsive, with natural dynamic variation, emphasising spontaneity, phrasing, and ensemble interplay.
